Hi, nice to meet you. You are entering to the website of Leticia
Starkov, assistant professor at Elgin Community College.
Let my tell you a little bit
about myself. I started teaching full-time at ECC in the Fall of 2003.
I teach introductory economics, micro and macro, and contemporary
economic issues. I have been teaching at the college level for seven
years. My teaching experience includes universities in Chicago,
Illinois, Morgantown, West Virginia, Puebla and Xalapa in Mexico.
I came to the U.S from Mexico in
the Fall of 1998 to study a doctoral degree in economics. After
finishing my degree I found the wonderful opportunity of teaching at
ECC. I like working in a community college because teaching is valued
as the most important task for an instructor and I love teaching. I
truly enjoy helping students learn and believe that in order to be
successful in any mission a person must like what she does. My research
interest has changed in the past two years from the area of
international finance to the search of methods for teaching economics
to undergraduates as alternatives to “chalk and talk”.
In my life outside the college,
I adore spending time with my family: my husband and two kids, ages
eighteen and one. I like swimming and biking, and make every effort to
exercise consistently. In the future, I would like to find time to
study music appreciation and History of the U.S.
You are welcome to contact me,
by e-mail or phone. You could also stop by my office. It is located in
Room 213 of the Instructional Center (ICT) building.
