ECC has a wonderful Tutoring Center located in C230 (2nd floor of the Library). They offer drop-in, online, and private tutoring (see link to right for more details). The Tutoring Center offers the following benefits:
- Improve test scores
- Learn productive study skills from professionals
- Build academic self-confidence
- Reach student’s full potential
Along with a full staff of professional tutors,
- There are six computers in the Tutoring Center. Students using MyMathLab can use these computers while doing homework and seeking help from the tutoring staff.
- There are study tables available in the center. Students can do their homework at the study tables, then move to the Drop-In Tutoring Tables to seek help.
- The Tutoring Center provides training on Study Skills including Note Taking, Test Taking, Time Management, and Memory and Learning Styles. Many students can benefit by improving their study skills. Staff who provide this type of help are fully trained.
Encourage students to attend tutoring even if they are doing OK in class. Those students doing well can still benefit from a little extra help once in awhile.
Use the Tutoring Referral form (see the academic forms page) to refer a student to the Tutoring Center for help. The form includes information on drop-in tutoring, a section for the instructor to complete identifying areas of need, and a log to be completed by the tutor each time the student attends tutoring.
If you haven't seen the Tutoring Center, drop on by; you'll be impressed.
If you'd like your students to get more information about the Tutoring Center at ECC, contact Susan Miedwig, the Manager of the Tutoring Center, at smiedwig@elgin.edu or 847.214.7636. Susan can arrange a visit to your classroom, typically taking about 10 minutes to explain the service and distribute bookmarks with the tutoring hours for the current semester.
