Qualifying for Union Status

For the most up-to-date information, be sure to check the elgin.edu/jobs website and the ECCFA contract.

The language below details how to qualify for UAF1 or UAF2 status. If you have any questions about your current status, please contact Vicki Bethke or one of the math department coordinators.

Qualifying for Unit Adjunct Faculty 1

From the ECCFA contract:

[U]nit adjunct faculty I become eligible for unit membership in the following manner:

  1. Taught two consecutive semesters, no earlier than Spring 2004.
  2. Employed to teach a class or classes in the third consecutive semester. In the event that an individual does not teach the third consecutive semester, eligibility would be pending until the fourth consecutive semester. If an individual does not teach in the fourth consecutive semester, he/she will not be eligible for UAF-I status and must re-qualify.

What this means is that you must teach at least 3 credit hours for at least two consecutive semesters and be employed for a third semester to qualify for UAF1 status.

Qualifying for Unit Adjunct Faculty 2

top From the ECCFA contract:

The Board [...] recognizes the unit adjunct faculty that teach at least the minimum number of credit or contact hours, excluding independent study assignments and summer, in one of the following ways:

  1. teach at least twelve (12) credit or contact hours for three (3) out of four (4) consecutive years beginning with their first semester of adjunct employment; or
  2. teach at least six (6) credit or contact hours per semester for six (6) of eight (8) consecutive semesters.

Once eligible, recognition as a Unit Adjunct Faculty II begins the Spring or Fall semester following completion of the requirement.

Adjunct faculty qualify for UAF2 status, therefore, by teaching at least 12 credits for three out of four consecutive years (academic or calendar), or at least 6 credits for six out of eight consecutive semesters.
