Professional Profile

For over 30 years, I have taught a variety of office-related classes within high school and college. Previously, I taught office skills at College of DuPage, Robert Morris Business College, and Triton College.

Currently, I am an associate professor in Office Administration Technology at Elgin Community College. In this capacity, I teach several different classes, including applied business language skills, which is a grammar course that follows the Gregg Reference Manual. In my business communication classes, I reinforce these grammar rules and incorporate critical thinking exercises. Additional classes taught include: Word, PowerPoint, Report Writing, and Document Production I and II.

My teaching format includes: face-to-face and online learning environments. It is important that my students engage with me and their classmates by participating in a variety of discussion forum activities and/or face-to-face projects. Learning should be fun! Engaging students to participate in team building and critical thinking activities is very important in “Improving People’s Lives Through Learning.”

I earned my bachelor’s degree in business education from DePaul University and my master’s degree in Human Resource Development from Northeastern Illinois University. With technology changes, I earned a Master of Online Certificate from the University of Illinois.

Joining and participating in professional organizations is very important to me. I am a member of several professional organizations including: the American Association of Women in Community Colleges—ECC Chapter; Association for Business Communication; Delta Pi Epsilon (honorary business education graduate research society), Illinois Business Education Association (IBEA). I also serve as an advisor to the Office Administration Student Association at ECC and a served as a member of the Curriculum Committee for the past ten years.

Outside of teaching and being a lifelong learner, the passion and commitment that I have with my family is very important. My husband, son, and daughter have been very motivating.. Our family this spring adopted a dog, and he is very special to us.
