Collage is defined by dictionary.com as: 1. a. An artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface, often with unifying lines and color. b. A work, such as a literary piece, composed of both borrowed and original material. All of these are good starting places to begin thinking about the act of collage. The project asks you to consider this in the realm of Photoshop. How can you combine different elements together to create a unified artwork? You are asked to create three new images continuing to explore the theme of identity from a combination of objects, images, surfaces, and textures. It must use a diverse range of imagery, combined in such a way that the completely different elements work together visually. The final three images should be somehow thematically linked (other than both being assembled by you). It could possibly be a thematic link or it might be a narrative (sequential) link. In either case, the images should function together as a triptych to create meaning for the viewer. You may choose to use text in Photoshop as another collage element. Each image should have a minimum of five different collage elements (which does not include repetition). You may use elements that you scanned or photographed for the last project. The deadline for the project is the beginning of the class period on Monday, March 10. We will discuss in a group critique, and you will submit three window-matted prints. You should schedule time with me in advance of that day to print. I may also ask to keep digital copies of your work to show as examples in the future. The final sizes of your individual images will be no larger than 8" x 10" @ 300 dpi, but you may make them smaller if you choose. Consider the relationship of scale to the idea you are trying to convey.
